Women in Translation Month: A Reading and Discussion in Brooklyn, NY

This year, for the first time, the Translation Committee is holding a reading and discussion to mark Women in Translation Month, co-presented with WORD Bookstore in Brooklyn. The evening will showcase the work of authors and translators alike, while also shining a spotlight on gender disparity as a constraint on free expression.

As Jennifer Clement said, in 2015, when she became the first woman president of , “As a writer and activist I have advocated for those silenced by gender, race and class. Global gender censorship is escalating. It is time for PEN to lead in this area in a more visible way.”
